About Us

The New Mexico State Library for the Blind and Print Disabled is a network library of the National Library Service which provides a variety of audio books, magazines and music on cartridge to eligible New Mexico residents who are unable to read standard printed materials due to a disability such as low vision, blindness, and handicapped in a way which limits the ability to hold or read a book, TBI, print disabilities, etc.

In order to gain access, one must fill out an application and have it certified by an authority.  An authority as outlined on page #3 of the application.

Equipment

This link includes information about the different equipment available from the NLS for utilization of audiobooks and magazines. Items include Talking Book Machines, Ebraille Readers and the ability to stream from the Amazon Echo.

 

BARD APP

The BARD Mobile app is a service of the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS), Library of Congress, that provides access to braille and talking books directly from the NLS Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD). BARD contains tens of thousands of books, magazines, and music scores in audio and braille formats, with new selections added daily.

The BARD app can be used on Android and IOS Devices. 

 

 

Resources for Children

The National Library Service provides audiobooks and magazines as well as a Summer Reading Program to children with low vision, blindness and reading disabilities as well as the handicapped.

The National Library Service offers a resource page specific to children. As well, one can search the Kid Zone catalog for books in the NLS catalog. 

Scribe Minis

Scribe minis allow for immediate download onto your cartridge at the following local libraries.
