Voting is an important part of our democracy. It allows us to have a voice in how our local and national communities are run. Ensure that you are informed about the voting process in New Mexico by reviewing the resources mentioned below.
Voter registration closes 28 days prior to an election. (Section 1-4-8, NMSA 1978).
Check your registration & ballot status!!
You may request assistance in voting at the polls if you are blind, physically disabled, unable to read or write or a member of a language minority (Section 1-12-12, NMSA 1978).
Any person of your choice may assist you, except your employer, an agent of the employer, an officer or agent of your union, or a candidate whose name is on the ballot (Section 1-12-15, NMSA 1978).
Request an Absentee / Mail-In Ballot!!
Absentee ballot requests through the Secretary of State’s website for the 2024 General Election through 5:00pm on Thursday November 3rd, 2024.
You can request & turn in your ballot at your voting location or at the County Clerk's Office. Find yours here!
If you requested an absentee ballot and decide to vote in person you can go to the voting location, fill out an affidavit that cancels your mail in vote, and then proceed to vote in person.
If you get your absentee ballot and don't want to mail it in you can drop off your ballot at any polling location or at your County Clerk's Office.

League of Women Voters NM - The League of Women Voters of New Mexico was established in 1920. At the first LWVNM convention in 1950 the agenda adopted by the delegates was an examination and evaluation of the functions and services of state government. Since that time the state League has been involved in many activities including advocacy on issues at the Roundhouse.
