Restorative Justice seeks to repair harm and restore relationships in the aftermath of crime. It is founded on values of accountability and healing. It provides everyone involved in and affected directly or indirectly by a harm, an opportunity to participate in dialogue."

The National Center on Restorative Justice

The National Center on Restorative Justice (NCORJ) "improves criminal justice policy and practice in the United States through supporting education, research, and training to further restorative approaches." 

Restorative justice is committed to "identifying needs and repairing harm, active accountability, centering relationships and community, and voluntary participation." The goals of the National Center on Restorative Justice are to: 

  • Promote and teach restorative justice in universities and law schools to educate people in restorative approaches. 
  • Provide restorative justice education and training for the criminal justice system and public. 
  • Research restorative justice and social inequities in the U.S. criminal legal system.
  • Offer training and technical assistance to criminal justice agencies partnering with community organizations to participate in restorative justice programs. 

National Institute of Corrections (NIC) Library Resources on Victim Offender Dialogue

Victim Offender Dialogue, or Restorative Justice Dialogue is a mediation process that involves crime victims and people who have harmed them. Mediation allows both parties to communicate their feelings and address the harm caused, understand the impact of the offense, and seek healing. A trained facilitator guides the conversation to safeguard a safe environment for everyone involved. 

Post-Conviction Victim Service Providers Victims have statutory rights that begin when a crime is committed. against them, preferably victims would be informed of their rights during every step of the justice system's process, including release, probation, and parole. 

NM Victim's Rights Project

New Mexico Victims' Rights Project can help victims of violent crimes navigate the criminal justice system, advocate for themselves, find resources, and pursue their constitutional rights.

Victim's Resources includes information from national organizations about stalking, crimes against children, domestic violence, school violence prevention, victim advocacy, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
